  • Contact from Conungra

The Manager of ‘Foodworks’ - Conungra (Qld) has approached MEEPPA for ideas and help on how to tackle a corporate giant – (you guessed it ‘Woolly Bully’s’) - His main problem is the size of his town as we advised him to immediately start a Township Group – Believe it or not – 725 People ! ! !

  • Powerful Owl management areas

A planned update of” ‘Powerful Owl Management Areas (“POMAS – DSE) will commence on May 28th. Initially ‘Protective Overlays’ will come into effect for work gangs etc. From this we will develop a Protocol in collaboration with the SYR to update and if necessary review the ‘Owl Land(s) Management Plan” – which could also apply to the other defined Owl Breeding and Roosting areas. The Shire is to be congratulated in working with us in an attempt to lessen the impact on the known areas after we advised them of our wish to instigate an ‘Owl Land Nesting Core Protocol’ in October of last year. There are less than 500 breeding pairs left in Victoria and around this town we have defined 4 possibly 5.

  • Sightings

A platypus is believed to be currently occupying the pool above the Falls in Quinn Reserve. We have not sighted one in this location for a long time. Although the levels of the creek have been rather low this pool is particularly secluded and the falls act as a natural barrier for a reasonably sustainable habitat. Concern has been expressed at releasing any untreated water from the nearby Warraweee/Currajong Road Scheme.
